Divinely Nurtured
Doula
A doula nurtures a mother, whilst she nurtures her infant, in and out of the womb.
Birth Doula's offer support to parents to be for the birth of their child staying with them throughout the experience, offering comfort wisdom and loving care.
A doula is not a doctor nurse or a midwife, she is a specially trained birth companion who is familiar with the process of birth, who can encourage the mother to go within and follow the lead of her body, or discover the hidden strengths of her birthing instinct. She cannot give birth for you, but she will hold you safely whilst you make the journey, for she has seen it happen before and she believes in the magic of your body and trusts in you to find your own way.
She appreciates that comfort measures may be needed and she knows how and when to use them, she is not easily embarrassed and will understand that emotions can run high and bodily functions may become primal, you do not have to please a doula or act in a certain way, she is with you unconditionally for whatever may happen . She will not judge you, and if special circumstances should arise, can help you to make informed decisions.
She will not exclude your partner/husband, she wants to support all of you as a new family to allow your birth to be the best birth possible.
She will stay until you are ready for her to leave, and visit you afterwards to share in the story of the birth for she was there and carries the memory in her heart.
Post-natal Doula
She will bring her calm confidence to your home to help with the transition into motherhood. She is experienced with issues surrounding the care of the newborn child and the new born mother and can help with daily tasks until you feel ready to take charge again. A jack of all trades she may help with breastfeeding, cooking, shopping, caring for older children, light housework, or just being a friend who can listen, or watch over the baby whilst you rest. Woman to woman, she understands and can help you to adjust to your new life.
She also knows that sometimes a new father cannot do everything even though he wants to, he also has adjustments to make, and new challenges to face. Fathers like to know that there is support for them too and with help from the doula supper and a clean shirt, leaving the evening free to spend quality time together as a new family.
